About Me
Hi, I’m Becki, a crime and psychological thriller author based in Scotland.
I write dark psychological thrillers exploring the perception of normality, morality, possession and obsession, and the hope that can survive even the worst violence. I’ve been drawn to crime stories since watching crime-based TV shows and films as a young adult. I became fascinated not only by the crimes themselves, but by what goes on inside the minds of both criminals and victims.
My journey into writing began in high school, when a piece I wrote during a creative writing class was published in the school magazine. From there, I began writing screenplays and short stories, but after leaving school, writing took a back seat.
Then, in 2022, I found my way back to it.
I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia at the age of 20 and Functional Neurological Disorder in 2024. My life changed dramatically. I went from working full-time in health and social care and studying to become a nurse to spending long periods on bed rest and, at times, being unable to walk.
Writing became an escape from the pain and fatigue. What started as a distraction soon became fuel for my stories, giving me somewhere to channel emotion and lose myself in another world. It was during this time that I began writing my debut novel, Ferris Brae Murders.
When I’m not writing, you’ll usually find me shopping with my mother, visiting my sister and my nieces and nephews, exchanging writing and marketing ideas with my father, or spending time with my husband, whom I married in June 2024. I also work part-time with a Housing Association—and, occasionally, the people I meet inspire little pieces of the characters who eventually find their way onto the page.
I’m an avid reader, a huge Freida McFadden fan, and someone who loves bright colours perhaps a little more than you'd expect from the stories I write.
My latest novel, Ferris Brae Break Free, follows a sixteen-year-old girl raised by a prolific serial killer as she uncovers the secrets buried within her family and fights to escape the only life—and the only father—she has ever known.
It’s dark, emotional, and probably not what you’d expect from someone who loves bright colours quite as much as I do.
To me, Ferris Brae Break Free means the dream I’ve been working towards is almost within reach. Usually, this is the point where I feel like slamming on the brakes. This time, I’m applying gentle pressure to the accelerator.
At heart, I write because I can lose myself completely in my stories. The words flow freely, and inspiration comes from everywhere—the people I meet, the things I see, the stories I hear, and the thoughts that suddenly pop into my head.
Those intrusive thoughts that no one ever speaks about?
I turn them into twisting, tantalising thrillers.
I hope my stories take you somewhere unexpected, keep you guessing, and make you desperate to discover what happens next.
Thanks for stopping by — I’m glad you’re here.
